Care and fixes

Product buildup on plates and barrels makes a tool drag and heat unevenly. Flashing lights or a tool that stops heating usually point to auto shut off, a lock setting or a cord fault.

Buildup from styling products bakes onto plates and barrels. Clean only when the tool is unplugged and cool, with a soft damp cloth; check the manual before using any cleaner, especially on coated plates.

Flashing lights often mean the tool is still heating, has gone into auto shut off, or is showing a fault. The manual for your model lists what each pattern means.

A tool that stops heating or cuts out when the cord moves may have a damaged cord or swivel. Stop using it and contact the maker; do not open a heated tool yourself.

Common mistakes

  • Cleaning a hot or plugged in tool.
  • Scraping coated plates with anything abrasive.
  • Carrying on with a tool that has a damaged cord.
